Beckenham had 60,739 residents at the 2021 census and sits 1.7 miles west of Bromley, so it is one of the shortest runs we make from our Homesdale Road base.

It was a small village until the railway arrived in 1857. The population then went from around 2,000 in 1850 to 26,000 by 1900 as the Cator family's estates were built out as villa communities. What that leaves is Victorian villas on wide roads with large gardens — and the large ones have very often been converted into flats.

That conversion is what shapes most clearances here.
