Garden Clearance in Mottingham

Mottingham straddles three boroughs — Bromley, Lewisham and Greenwich — and sits about a mile and a half south-west of Eltham. That boundary is worth knowing, because which council area a property falls in affects parking rules and permits more than the distance does.

The defining feature is the London County Council estate. The LCC bought Court Farm in the early 1930s and opened the Mottingham estate in 1935: 2,000 houses with schools and shops, 2,337 dwellings across 202 acres at a density of 11.6 to the acre. Most of what we clear here is that estate housing.

Estate stock of that period is predictable in a helpful way — consistent layouts, reasonable doorways, gardens front and back — so volume usually matters more than manoeuvring. Parking is on-street through much of it, though, so the loading route generally needs thinking through before anything is lifted.

Older layers sit alongside it: the West Park estate from the 1880s, and the Coldharbour Estate of 1946 built for people made homeless by the Blitz. A property from one of those is a different job from a 1935 LCC house, so the road name is genuinely more useful to us than the postcode.
